Johnson & Johnson operates in three main areas: consumer products, pharmaceuticals and medical devices:
Consumer Products: Products include baby care, body care, facial care, sun care and personal health care for women, oral care, allergy care, trauma care, cold and cough, digestive health and analgesic care.

Pharmaceuticals: Johnson & Johnson's innovative medicines target diseases such as oncology (e.g., multiple myeloma and prostate cancer), immune system disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease and psoriasis), central nervous system disorders (e.g., schizophrenia), infectious diseases (e.g., HIV, hepatitis C and tuberculosis) and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (e.g., diabetes).

Medical Devices: Johnson & Johnson offers a range of innovative products for medical professionals. These include: orthopedic and neurosurgery (e.g., joint, trauma, family column, sports medicine, neurosurgery, maxillofacial and power tools), minimally invasive and open surgery (e.g., wound sutures, anastomoses, ultrasonic knives, absorbable hemostatic gauze, post-operative adhesion prevention for women. pelvic floor and incontinence surgical techniques, hernia repair supplies), electrophysiology (e.g. radiofrequency ablation catheters and related technologies), diabetic blood glucose management (e.g. networked blood glucose testing systems and blood glucose meters), cosmetic surgery (e.g. breast implants), infection prevention (e.g. hydrogen peroxide plasma cryo-sterilization series) and vision care.

Johnson & Johnson has more than 265 subsidiaries in more than 60 countries, employing nearly 126.500 people, and is headquartered in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. The company has many well-known brands such as Johnson's Baby, Neutrogena, Coca-Cola, Jolie, Bondi, Dakine and Tylenol.

History.
In the late nineteenth century, during the American Civil War, Joseph Lister, an English doctor, discovered airborne bacteria in the operating room and created the doctrine of "invisible bacteria". At the time, General Robert Wood Johnson, who served as a field medical officer, became an early adopter of Lister's theory.   

In 1886, Johnson and his two brothers started a new business together in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA - the manufacture of sterile surgical dressings - and formally founded the Johnson & Johnson Company. They employed 14 people and maintained a position in their industry.
  
As the business expanded and grew, Johnson & Johnson established new companies in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia in the 1920s to manufacture health products and promote health development.   


With more than 100 years of unrelenting innovation, Johnson & Johnson has established more than 230 subsidiaries in 57 countries, selling its products in 175 countries and employing more than 116,000 people, making it the world's most comprehensive and widespread manufacturer of health care products and related service providers. Johnson & Johnson is an integrated and widely distributed health care products manufacturer and related services provider in the consumer and personal care products, pharmaceutical products and medical device and diagnostic markets.
